The OPERAS Innovation Lab is a team of researchers, managers and creators. Led by the Institute of Literary Research of Polish Academy of Sciences it gathers members with various background and experiences.

Maciej Maryl
Chief Researcher
Maciej Maryl is an Assistant Professor and the founding Director of the Digital Humanities Centre at IBL PAN.
As the Chief Researcher of the OPERAS Innovation Lab, he drives innovative research in the field of digital humanities, focusing on developing research infrastructures and exploring how they are used by scholars. He actively collaborates with European research infrastructures through his involvement in various committees and organizations, including OPERAS, DARIAH, ALLEA, and ERIH+.

Tomasz Umerle
OPERAS Innovation Manager
Tomasz Umerle is an Assistant Professor and Coordinator of Research Infrastructure at the Digital Humanities Centre, IBL PAN.
As the Innovation Manager of the OPERAS Innovation Lab, his role is to support the community in developing and successfully implementing innovations that advance scholarly communication in the Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH), while enhancing the sector’s capacity to address critical societal challenges. Tomasz has extensive experience in research infrastructure projects, both nationally and internationally, and has contributed to major initiatives such as OPERAS and DARIAH.

Elena Sokolova
Business Development Lead
Elena has over 20 years of experience in full-service marketing and community building across various sectors, including technologies, education, and social enterprises.
At OPERAS, she brings her expertise in strategic planning, marketing communication, and innovative service development to enhance our initiatives and engage diverse stakeholders. Before joining OPERAS, Elena worked with diverse international organizations including MIT and Google dealing with projects that integrate entrepreneurship, sciences, and social impact. She holds a master’s degree in management, diplomas in management, history and sociology, and she is completing her Ph.D. in cultural anthropology. Elena’s commitment to social good is reflected in her work with NGOs, where she has developed strategies for scaling impact-driven initiatives.

Sy Holsinger
OPERAS Chief Technology Officer (CTO)
Sy is in charge of the OPERAS service strategy and coordinates the distributed teams behind the solutions.
Previous to OPERAS, Sy spent more than fifteen years in academic and research projects funded by the European Commission (EC), mainly in large-scale distributed research infrastructures. He is a certified expert, trainer and auditor (ISO 19011) in both FitSM and ISO/IEC 27001 standards and volunteers as Co-chair of the ITEMO working group to evolve the FitSM standard.

Magdalena Wnuk
Observatory Lead
Magdalena is an experienced content and communications manager, as well as a researcher currently involved in projects concerning open science.
She has a background in cultural anthropology, history, and sociology. Her academic research concerned mostly on migrations and identity studies to which she applied various methodologies. For over 7 years she has been working as an analyst, manager and editor at Polish NGO services advocating for transparent politics.

Francoise Gouzi
OPEN Science Officer at DARIAH-EU
Information Officer “détachée” from the French Ministry of Research, she is working as Open Science Officer at DARIAH-EU.
She is responsible for fostering and implementing Open Science practices across the DARIAH network. She contributes to the design and implementation of open science policy statements, guidelines and services related to the open dissemination of research results in the humanities.
